The ADDIE Process-Evaluation
In the simplest sense, Evaluation seeks to determine the effectiveness of a training product. Of course, there’s the simple explanation, and the complete explanation.
There are several ways to determine training effectiveness. One of the most common and respected methods is the Kirkpatrick Model, which consists of four levels.

In general, as the level of evaluation increases, the effort and resources necessary to implement that level increase.
Level 1
Level 1 determines whether learners enjoyed the training and whether the feel it was worthwhile. Although the industry refers to Level 1 evaluations as “smiley sheets”, they can tell us important things about how the learners responded to the training.
Level 2
Level 2 measures whether learning has occurred. Level 2 evaluations will frequently take the form of multiple choice questionnaires. As long as the questions address the learning objectives, correct responses indicate that they’ve learned what the course was designed to train.
Level 3
Level 3 measures learner behavior. Learners may learn, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll apply what they’ve learned to performing their jobs. Level 3 determines whether learning is being used.
Level 4
Level 4 determines whether an increase in performance can be tied to the effectiveness of the training.
